An ongoing chronicle of some things I am enthused about:
1. Earnest women playing the banjo. Bonus points for pink boots and Randy Newman covers.
2. The Men’s Dept at Sears in Chicago. Really bailed me out on a recent trip. I salute your throwback sense of style, Chicago. That tower should never have changed its name.
3. The Hallmark Inn, Davis, California. Classy place, with classy ladies working the front desk. When I had to exchange an iron because it was covered in red wax, they didn’t ask any questions. And I was able to complete my craft project on time and under budget.
4. Being seated at the table NEXT to the table where Ann Margaret was sitting. I really think we could have made a go of it, but I appreciate that this needed to happen organically.
5. The satisfying vagueness of Google Maps. While I had no intention of spending three hours chatting with Steve and Violet at the Goodwill Headquarters, it was a nice diversion from having to actually visit the Goodwill Retail store I was aiming for.
6. People who know how to masterfully segue from one act to another. Hint: if it involves the phrase, “I’ll be right Black,” you might want to rethink the set list.
7. Being retweeted by Men’s Wearhouse. (Let’s talk sponsorship, people.)
8. $10 Budweisers. Spending that much makes me feel like I’m drinking gold, instead of watered-down horse piss.
(Let’s talk sponsorship, people!)
9. Meeting Michael Showalter and Damian from OKGO in the same night. We three just get each other.
10. Those paper glasses that the optometrist gives you when dilating your pupils. For Halloween I’m going as dime store Ray Charles. Let me feel your wrist!
