Dale welcomes comedian and writer Maeve Higgins back to the Deep Night for a special summer episode of the podcast. Dale and Maeve swelter together in a small room in SoHo to talk about Maeve’s new collection of essays, Maeve in America. The book is a fantastic addition to your reading list this August, perfect for stolen moments on a rocky beach, or for enjoying under the stars in a mis-guided attempt to prove to a loved one that you really love being outdoors. Dale asks Maeve to share some of the observations about Americans that she’s included in the book, from a tendency to overshare at parties to the curious competitiveness over rescue animals. The two also talk about immigration in the US, comedy around the world, and staggeringly poor advice given by grandfathers of Irish descent. Plus Dale hugs an emu! Maeve in America is available everywhere August 7th from Penguin Books.
Maeve Higgins is a contributing writer for The New York Times and the host of the hit podcast Maeve in America: Immigration IRL. She is a comedian who has performed all over the world, including in her native Ireland, Edinburgh, Melbourne, and Erbil. Now based in New York, she cohosts Neil deGrasse Tyson’s StarTalk, both the podcast and the TV show on National Geographic, and has also appeared on Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer and on WNYC’s 2 Dope Queens. To purchase Maeve in America – find a local bookseller like Dale’s favorite spot in Brooklyn Books Are Magic, or visit Penguin’s site.
