Dale holds a bunch of things too close to his face in his ongoing attempt to gain greater awareness and understanding of the people who raised him. He asks for a little help from the artificial intelligence machines in conjuring two figures from his father’s past, a very nice couple that happened to reside in a glass doorknob. He sorts through box after box trying to assemble more complete memories, but ends up overwhelmed by too much detail and by secrets he was never intended to find. Plus, Dale remembers a high school job where he got to be a thing inside a thing, watching the world through a tiny porthole, but honing his ability to make at least one person laugh.
