Dale starts to feel something close to optimism again, so he calls up the prolific writer, actor, producer, and DJ, Diallo Riddle to try and confirm his suspicions that things are in fact, getting better. Diallo talks with Dale about the cultural influences and comedic inspiration behind his hit TV variety show Sherman’s Showcase. The two also discuss the origins of Diallo’s vast musical knowledge, the lives of the Solid Gold dancers, and the oft-forgotten genius of Steve Allen. Diallo also shares what it was like to grow up in an artistic household and the importance of embedding social impact in creative work. Plus Dale marks one year of being in lockdown and imagines what evolutionary changes might have taken place during this year apart from others.
Diallo Riddle received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and has written for and performed in a number of television shows and specials. Riddle is the co-creator along with Bashir Salahuddin of South Side (Comedy Central) and Sherman’s Showcase (IFC). For more on Diallo including DJ sessions and updates to the Sherman’s Spotify playlists, give him a follow on Instagram, @diallo. Sherman’s Showcase can be found on IFC on demand or streaming on Hulu.
